In a landmark move to enhance healthcare access in Burundi, The Village Microclinic has inaugurated the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic in Gihosha, Bujumbura. This advanced facility is committed to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare services, with a particular focus on free maternal and child health care services.

Since March 3, 2025, Rukundo Medical Polyclinic launched two critical health programs aimed at ensuring the well-being of mothers and children such as vaccination & postnatal consultations aimed at providing essential medical care for newborns to safeguard their early development and overall health as well as prenatal consultations which is offering comprehensive healthcare support to expectant mothers, ensuring a safer pregnancy and delivery. These services are entirely free, underscoring the clinic’s commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Burundi.
“Our goal is to ensure that no mother or child is left without essential medical care due to financial constraints. We believe in healthcare as a fundamental right, not a privilege,” said Dr. Tharcisse Nshimirimana, Founder and CEO of The Village Microclinic.

The Village Microclinic has long been dedicated to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in underserved and economically disadvantaged areas. Through its extensive network of community health workers, the organization actively reaches out to those in slums and peri-urban communities, ensuring they seek medical attention rather than enduring illnesses in silence at home.
“Our approach extends beyond clinical treatment,” Dr. Nshimirimana explained. “We actively engage with communities, educate families, and ensure that individuals understand the importance of seeking timely medical care.”
By bringing healthcare services closer to those in need, the clinic aims to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and quality medical care.
The launch of Rukundo Medical Polyclinic signifies a substantial milestone in The Village Microclinic’s mission to transform healthcare accessibility across Burundi. The organization calls upon the community to spread awareness about the new facility and encourage those in need to take advantage of these life-saving services.

“Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege—it’s a right,” Dr. Nshimirimana emphasized. “By working together, we can build a healthier future for all.”
With this healthcare expansion, The Village Microclinic continues to set a high standard in community healthcare. By prioritizing the well-being of vulnerable populations, the organization ensures that no one is left behind in the pursuit of quality medical care. The opening of the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic stands as a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes and fostering a stronger, healthier Burundi. As the facility continues its operations, The Village Microclinic remains dedicated to its mission—providing accessible, compassionate, and life-changing healthcare services to those who need them most.
