Olive Nindamutsa is a professional videographer at the Burundian National Television since 2007. She is a widow and one of the few women in her career, which automatically indicate that her journey was not easy.

My job is unpredictable with impromptu on-site work, unconventional hours and sometimes dangerous situations”, says Olive. She also adds that navigating this career so commonly practiced by men, required her to work twice as hard to prove that she was capable.

Despite all the difficulties, the burning passion she has for her work is what fuels her engine. This career has provided financial stability for her and her family and enabled her to put her kids in good schools. She goes further to say that no job is easy, so one should focus on the benefits of the job and do it wholeheartedly.

Olive’s advice to the youth especially young ladies is to stand up and work hard. “Young ladies like looking good, dressing nicely and living a soft and easy life. In most cases they expect their parents or spouses to provide that life for them which is wrong”, she underlines.

She continued saying that young girls should be encouraged to go out and train themselves to do any career of their choice regardless of the gender norms. “This is so that women can be more financially independent rather than depending on men every time.”

In the future, her wish is to be able to train willing young women in the art of videography. Olive Nindamutsa has accomplished a lot in her career and she can serve as an example that women are capable of doing anything if they set their mind up to it.
