Inès Gateka, The Nurse Turned Entrepreneur and Created Runyuzi Fashion

Inès Gateka is a nurse. She is oing her own business by making different clothes using threads. She is one of the rewarded youth in Innovation Week 2021 where selected projects were awarded an amount BIF 3,500,000 each one. She is also among the rewarded youth during the Inkerebutsi Day on February 10, 2023 by the the President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye

Gateka founded Runyuzi Fashion in 2020. Her target is to make clothes that showcase Burundi (Made in Burundi) and those clothes are made with threads. According to her, the cloth price depends on its size and varies from BI 20 000 to BIF 80 000. Most of the time, they knit and sell clothes in Bujumbura City. “We even sell our products in countryside”, she mentions.

When starting Runyuzi Fashion, they were two (2), but now they are ten (10). She adds saying that, because their products are manufactured with hands, consequently the harvest is not sufficient.

Gateka tells us that her husband supported her with financial means to run her project. She advises other young people especially young ladies and women to work hard by using their skills and talents so as to be financially independent. “I intended to support my country for a long time. I encourage women and girls to be togethe, move out the homes and put hands together to start generating income activities because it is possible”.
