Noël César Bukeyeneza is a second-year student at ENS (École Normale Supérieure), specializing in Kirundi and Swahili. Alongside his studies, he works as a tailor. In his craft, he specializes in creating various items, including curtains for doors and windows, bed covers, furniture covers for sofas using recycled car tires, handbags, and small pouches. This hardworking student is supported by Suavisi Citegetse, with whom he also engages in producing soaps for washing clothes, dishes, and general cleaning.

Bukeyeneza shares that he chose tailoring because he is deeply passionate about it. He strives to balance his studies with his work and even teaches his peers tailoring so they too can become self-reliant.

Despite his determination, challenges are inevitable. He explains: “The products I make, especially curtains and bed covers, are not yet well-known or widely sought after by people. As a result, sales are still limited.” Nevertheless, he appreciates the progress he has made. He adds, “Working has allowed me to earn money to support my school expenses and other needs, especially given the rising cost of living in the city.”

In five years, Bukeyeneza envisions owning his own factory for tailoring various clothes and employing as well as training youth, which is his ultimate goal.

He encourages young people to be proactive and make the most of their abilities. “I would advise young people to let go of the mindset that there are no jobs. Instead, they should develop their own projects and create opportunities for themselves and others,” he says.

Noël César operates in Bujumbura city, Mutanga Sud neighborhood, Waga Avenue Number 4, near Paroisse Esprit de Sagesse (at kwa Ntabona).
